My 1st Mouse

My 1st Mouse is a program from Miti, in association with Widgit Software, to help children discover how to use a mouse. It was developed with the help of Milo, aged 2, who was desperate to use the computer like his older brothers.

My 1st Mouse offers three skills at different levels and there is also a range of classroom activities so it can either be used for discrete ICT skills and access or can be used in conjunction with classroom activities to practise areas such as visual discrimination.

My 1st Mouse can be used by older primary learners who are struggling with the concepts of moving, clicking or dragging a mouse.

"I used My 1st Mouse with some class 2 children. They all enjoyed it and connected with the characters and scenes. The games are nice and simple and offer plenty of practice. The rewards are of a good length too and each game has several levels (or stages) which meant there was plenty to do.

"I could see the progression built in via the different uses of the mouse but also within each use type through the game variations."

• Children with speech and language delay who need to learn by looking and doing
• Children who cannot follow spoken instructions, perhaps because they are still learning English
